The International Express
for Sony Alpha Female +, 2021

 

The International Express is a documentary photo-essay on the various neighborhoods along the 7-subway line in New York City and the lives of families and businesses affected due to COVID-19 in April 2020. This project was funded by the Sony Alpha Female + Grant and a part of the series was featured on their website.

 

Urgen Sherpa, President of the United Sherpa Association, is a community leader and organizer providing relief and aid to COVID-19 affected families in Jackson Heights, NYC

Ruqayyah, a Vietnamese woman, runs a small business designing and selling masks, hijabs and niqabs wholesale after her husband lost his job due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Phurba Sherpa, Vice President and Sports Coordinator of a soccer school and a volunteer at the United Sherpa Association delivering door-to-door PPE supplies and meals to COVID-19 affected families in Queens.

Saifun Naher, a Bangladeshi immigrant lost her husband to COVID-19 in April 2020 and is currently threatened eviction by her landlord.

Habibi, a Bangladeshi immigrant cab driver whose business has gotten slower due to the pandemic is contemplating moving out of the city
