Three years ago, I came across the expression, ”If you understand time as only passing then you do not understand the time being." - A Tale for the Time Being, Ruth Ozeki.
To better comprehend what the sentence means to me, I began photographing and filming the often overlooked and taken for granted fragments of the underground, thereby using color and composition to best convey my current emotion. I find it ironical that an environment that is almost hundred years old is perceived to be transitory because of its purpose. By freezing time and encapsulating a frame of mind I am painting an abstract narrative of the self using underground elements that linger as ghosts.
